Hey there! It’s been a minute. Summer is almost half over, and it’s been a great one so far, especially because I’ve been able to weave in time to put together our, yes, wait for it… NEXT KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN!
Last year’s The Bestiary - Feral: A field guide to the new world (remember? It funded in one day? It was a “Kickstarter: Project we love”?) success showed us that the whole “werewolves during the fur trade” concept had legs (and furry ones, at that), and fueled a larger storyline.
Just over a year later, we’re ready to do it again. In August, we’ll be launching the Kickstarter campaign for Feral: The Beast Within, issue number one of a six-part series focusing on fantastic creatures and their impact on the fur trade and the New World in the 1700s.
If you can (hold on, that’s just me being all Canadian… there’s no “if” here. Just do it. Please. And thank you) visit the preview page and smash that “notify me on launch” button. Not only will it, well, notify you on launch, but it also helps build buzz (oooh, look TWO people are interested in this now!) and provides us creators with a sense of how much more they have to do in order to bring a project to life.
There are some other fun things I’ll share in the coming days/weeks, but for now, here’s a quick rundown of the synopsis:
Feral: The Beast Within
Set in the mid-18th century, following the golden age of piracy, Feral: The Beast Within explores a world where werewolves and their rare pelts fuel the North American fur trade.
A chance discovery could change everything for Captain William Grey and his crew, triggering a voyage to the new world where it was rumoured the Crown had discovered untold riches, resources, and creatures out of myth and legend.
Grey and his shipmates are in dire straits. A rag-tag collection of lost causes, the company of the Sea Wolf had fled the British Isles in 1750 to search for fame and fortune. Ten years on, they didn't have much to show for it, and Captain Grey is to blame.
Would this discovery put Grey on the right path, or had he pit the crew of the Sea Wolf against a too-powerful enemy? Lord Augustus Monarch of the Hudson's Bay Company had been expecting the arrival of the ship Grey and his men had chanced upon, along with the secrets it contained... he'll stop at nothing to get his imperialistic hands on them.
The book is 30+ full-colour pages and will have two variant covers and, as mentioned, is only the first part of a six-issue adventure. Exciting, right?
Anyway, I’ll leave it at that for now. Stay tuned, wish us luck, and please (PLEASE) think about backing this passion project/side hustle.
Thanks!
Mike
